1098-T IRS Tax form
The Office of the Bursar generates 1098-T Tax forms to assist students and parents with filing education-related taxes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The IRS explains credits and deductions related to education and eligibility rules in IRS Publication 970. Our Office recommends you review this publication for further information on the 1098-T.
Qualifying for a 1098-T
Not all students ualify to receive a 1098-T. Common reasons for not receiving a 1098-T include:
- No payments during the tax year
- Not enrolled in a degree-seeking program
- Supplied neither a Social Security Number (SSN) nor an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
Updating your SSN/ITIN
Follow the instructions to update your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
Accessing your 1098-T
You will be able to view the 1098-T for the previous tax year by January 31st of the following tax year. You may view it by:
- Log in to your my.UChicago Student Portal
- In the Finances menu, under Account, choose 1098-T Tax Form
- On the left side, click "Tax Forms."
- On the right side, View or Save the appropriate tax year.
- A PDF tax form will open (enable pop-ups to allow PDF to open)
- If you have Authorized Payers, they may access this information through the Authorized Payer Portal.
Please note that an authorized payer can only access your 1098T if you check the box granting them access to tax forms. To ensure an authorized payer has access, you must:
- Log in to your my.UChicago Student Portal
- Navigate to the Finances tab and click View Ebill/Epay
- Click My Account
- Scroll down to your payer's name and make sure the "Tax Forms" box is checked
Dates and Deadlines
1098-T tax forms are only produced from the end of January until the IRS tax filing deadline (in April). We cannot produce them after that date.

1098-T Tuition Statement
The 1098-T Tuition Statement covers January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. This tax document reflects the payments received toward qualified tuition and related expenses and the amount of scholarships and grants received.
All payments must be received by December 27th, 2024, to be included in the 2024 tax year.
Enrolled Authorized Users with access granted to retrieve the electronic 1098-T can log into their Authorized User Portal to retrieve this. You may confirm their access in my.UChicago.
1098-E Student Loan Interest Statement
The 1098-E Student Loan Interest Statement reflects the interest paid on qualifying student loan(s) from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Students receive a 1098-E for each qualified loan. Those who have borrowed on behalf of a dependent also receive a 1098-E. Beginning January 31, 2025, our office will mail the 1098-E to the address on file with your lender.
