Financial Aid and Student Loans

Please note: The Office of the Bursar and the Financial Aid Offices are separate offices with different responsibilities.

The Financial Aid Offices handle applying for financial aid, awarding grants and scholarships, processing loans, student employment programs, and answering financial aid questions.

The Office of the Bursar handles student account services, billing calendars, refunds, help submitting applications for external scholarships, emergency assistance, student account inquiries, and informing students about policies.

Our office does not determine, award, or process financial aid or loans. For questions about scholarship eligibility or amounts, or about loan applications, please contact your Financial Aid Office listed below.

University-Sponsored Financial Aid

The University of Chicago has dedicated Financial Aid Offices whose primary mission is to assist in managing the application, evaluation and awarding of institutional scholarship awards. Please contact your specific office to discuss scholarship eligibility and required information for distribution. These offices should also be consulted for questions regarding scholarship amounts.

Student Loans - Federal and Private

As a UChicago student, you may access Student Loans to assist in satisfying your Student Account charges. Student loans are applied for and processed by your local Financial Aid Office. All loans usually require a separate application and sometimes an additional credit application. All loans also require you to complete a promissory note before the funds may be released and applied to your Student Account.

If you wish to utilize Student Loans to satisfy your Student Account balance, we recommend you begin the application process no later than 60 days before your Student Account charges are due for a given quarter. Please contact your local Financial Aid Office listed below to begin the process.
