What is USHIP?
The University Student Health Insurance Plan (USHIP) is assessed annually for all eligible students. Students who have alternative coverage and wish to waive participation must submit a waiver request each academic year by the published deadline.
Waiver Submission & Processing
- Submit Waiver:
Complete the Student Health Insurance Waiver Request through the student portal by the published deadline.
- Processing Time:
- Allow 3–5 business days for your waiver request to be reviewed and processed by Student Wellness.
- If your waiver is approved, the USHIP charge will be removed from your student account statement within 7–10 business days.
After Waiver Approval
- If approved, check your My.UChicago portal to confirm that the USHIP charge has been removed.
- If it has been over ten business days since approval and the waiver has not been applied, follow up with Student Wellness using the contact information below.
Revised Statements
- If you would like a revised statement showing an updated account balance, you can obtain this yourself via the portal using the on demand statement feature.
