U-Ship Waivers

What is U-SHIP?

The University Student Health Insurance Plan (U-SHIP) is assessed annually for all eligible students. Students who have alternative coverage and wish to waive participation must submit a waiver request each academic year by the published deadline.

Waiver Submission & Processing

• Submit Waiver:
  During the annual enrollment/waiver period, complete the Student Health Insurance Waiver Request through the Student Insurance Website by the published deadline.
• Processing Time:

• Once you submit your waiver request, you will be notified same-day whether your waiver was approved. The message will come from United Healthcare Student Resources secure email system.
• If your waiver is approved, the U-SHIP charge will be removed from your student account statement within 7–10 business days.

 

After Waiver Approval

• If approved, check your My.UChicago portal to confirm that the U-SHIP charge has been removed.
• If it has been over ten business days since approval and the waiver has not been applied, follow up with Student Wellness using the contact information below.

Revised Statements

• If you would like a revised statement showing an updated account balance, you can obtain this yourself via the portal using the on demand statement feature.
