Returning International Students Checklist

Welcome back to the University of Chicago!

Here are a few quick steps to keep you and your support network financially ready for the year. Each one links to the page with the full details.

1.  Review Your Electronic Bill (EBill)

View your quarterly EBill through the my.UChicago student portal using your CNetID, and add Authorized Users so your support network can view and pay. Your first bill reflects pending financial aid; later bills show the full balance due. For dates and amounts, see Billing Information, the Billing Calendar, and Tuition and Fees.

2.  Review the University Health Insurance Plan

All students must carry health insurance and are automatically enrolled in USHIP unless they waive it each year (waiver period opens yearly on August 1st). If you miss the deadline, you will be enrolled and billed quarterly. Find more details on the Student Wellness website.

3.  Payments

Pay by ACH from a U.S. bank account, or send international payments in your local currency through Flywire, both in my.UChicago under Finances > Account > EBill/EPay. See Payments for all domestic and international options.

4.  Refunds & Direct Deposit

Expecting a living-expense refund? Enroll in Direct Deposit through my.UChicago (opens on August 1st) using a domestic or international bank account. See Refunds for details.

5.  Funding Sources

Explore additional Funding Sources, including external scholarships, Third-Party Contract Billing, tuition remission, and University-sponsored financial aid.

6.  Quarterly Payment Plan

Split your quarterly balance into three equal installments. Enroll each quarter once your billing statement is available, through my.UChicago or the Authorized User Portal. See the Quarterly Payment Plan page for eligibility, fees, and details.

7.  Policies

First, confirm you have no student account holds for this year. Then review the Bursar's account policies, including Add/Drop, Leave of Absence and Withdrawal, and the Financial Responsibility Agreement you will e-sign your first quarter. For questions about your visa status, contact the Office of International Affairs (OIA).

Welcome back to the University of Chicago. If you have further questions, be sure to Contact Us or look into our Financial Wellness options. We look forward to supporting you and wish you all the best on continuing your academic journey!
