UChicago students may be eligible for external or internal remission benefits for themselves or through parental employment.
External Remission refers to a benefit earned through employment external to the University of Chicago. Those students who are eligible for External Remission should do the following:
ALL students or providers should submit external remission payment electronically through the UChicago BackPack Portal*
You may complete this any time after you receive your award notification, even if the funds will arrive later, log in to the BackPack Portal and submit your remission provider's information. This triggers a payment link to your provider.
*For questions about BackPack, go to the BackPack Support Center.
If you have a form requiring completion by the Office of the Bursar, submit your external remission form using our Bursar Student Contact Form. Our office will complete any section requiring completion and if information is required by additional offices at the university, we will work with them directly to complete. Upon completion, the form will be returned to the student.
Please note that you may also obtain documentation for your provider such as proof of enrollment or a tuition and fee statement using these resources:

Internal, or University of Chicago, Remission refers to a benefit earned by a UChicago employee that reduces tuition charges for the eligible individual. Eligible employees apply for the benefit through their Human Resources Department. This benefit is processed by University of Chicago staff, so no payment information is required from the student.
For further information, go to the UChicago Intranet > Benefits & Career > Benefits > Tuition Benefits. Those eligible are encouraged to apply at least 60 days before the start of the quarter in which they wish to use the benefit for payment.
